Elämässä asiat tulevat näkyviksi valon kautta, maalauksessa valo tulee näkyväksi varjoja maalaamalla.
Tällä havainnolla on vahva psykologinen vaikutus maalauksen tulkintaan ja sillä on selkeä merkitys nykyisessä työskentelyssäni.
Pyrin samalla kehittämään työskentelyssäni vesivärimaalauksen kieltä. Tavoitteeni on tehdä akvarelleja, jotka osoittavat että vanhaan tekniikkaan nojaavalla käsityöllä voidaan tehdä näkyväksi tässä ajassa olevia ilmiöitä. Ilmaisu voi olla esittävää tai abstraktia ja teokset voivat saada kolmiulotteisen, tilallisen muodon. Käsin tuotetulle, uniikille ilmaisulle on tilaa ja tarvetta sähköisesti tuotetun kuvamaailman rinnalla.
Oman näyttelytoiminnan lisäksi olen viime vuosina kuratoinut näyttelyitä sekä kotimaassa että ulkomailla. Teoksiani on mukana muun muassa seuraavissa kokoelmissa: Amos Rex, HAM, Kiasma, Pohjoismainen akvarellimuseo, Sara Hildénin taidemuseo, Jenny ja Antti Wihurin rahasto sekä Turun Taidemuseo.

In life, things become visible through light. In painting, light becomes visible by painting shadows. This observation has a strong psychological impact on the interpretation of paintings, and is clearly relevant to my current work.
For a long time, my work has been about depicting everyday things and events. I was a child in the 1960s and young in the 1970s and -80s. I saw the peace movement, environmental awareness and the punk movement emerge in Finland. There have been big changes in the issues of sexual minorities in my lifetime. These are the foundations of my work, but my paintings depict the present age; the surprising and changeable times we live in.
At the same time, I strive to develop the language of watercolour painting in my work. I make the phenomena of this time visible with the use of a craft based on old techniques. My work can be figurative or abstract, and can occasionally take on a three-dimensional, spatial form. There is room and a need for hand-made, unique artifacts alongside electronically produced imagery.
I was born in 1963 and lived my childhood in Rantasalmi in Savo. I graduated as a visual artist from the Lahti Art Institute in 1989. I live and work in Helsinki, but London has played a big role in my life and art for the past 20 years. I have regularly exhibited my art and additionally curated exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. My works are included in the following collections, among others: Amos Rex, HAM, Kiasma, the Nordic Watercolour Museum, the Sara Hildén Art Museum, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and the Turku Art Museum.
